Windows LIve Messenger 2009
Problem:
Upgraded Messenger to ver 2009 and cannot sign in. Windows Live Communications Platform error is shown, pointing the fault to "wlcomm.exe."
Solution:
1---C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Contacts
2---Right click properties of wlcomm.exe
3---Click compatibility
4---Run on windows 95
5---Uncheck disable visual themes
6---Click OK

Internet Explorer showing a "red X" instead of the image
1. Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and find a file named hosts.
2. Open in notepad, delete the entries there and reboot.
3. Also, to find what entry needs to be deleted from this file, right click on the offending red x, go to properties and check the Address: (URL).
